Determination of Titratable Acidity in Milk

Requirements (Instruments, Chemicals & Other) :

  1. Burette
  2. Measuring cylinder
  3. Pipette – 10ml
  4. Beaker/Conical flask
  5. 0.1N NaOH solution
  6. Phenolphthalein indicator solution

Procedure :

  1. Take 10ml milk sample in a conical flask.
  2. Add few drops of Phenolphthalein in the sample.
  3. Fill the burette with 0.1 N standard NaOH solution and titrate sample till the appearance of pink colour.
  4. Note down the amount of titrant used to reach end point
  5. Calculate using formula:
